Not Your Mother’s Children’s Ministry

Published by admin on

I was interviewing for a position in children’s ministry, sharing about CEF, when the pastor said, “I just want to make sure our children’s ministry is modern…” This pastor had the same misconception about CEF that I believe many people, maybe even you, have. Perhaps when you think of CEF, you think of women carrying bags of outdated paper visuals, using flannel graph, and plugging in a CD player to play old-school sing along Bible songs. Now CEF has certainly been that and in some areas might still be. But the true beauty of CEF curriculum is that it’s adaptable!

The visuals can be used in small churches with no technology whatsoever but there are also PowerPoint presentations available for churches that want to take advantage of technology. The songs can be used in parks or backyards with simply a CD player but it can also be used in church auditoriums that have the ability to play our exciting music videos. You can add extra excitement to the curriculum by using skits, crafts, or additional YouTube videos that go along with the lesson. The curriculum is really what you make it . No matter how you adapt it to fit your ministry needs, the best thing about CEF curriculum is that it is Biblically based curriculum that provides opportunity for children to accept Jesus as their Savior in every single lesson. Not only can it be modern and adaptable, but also life changing– and that’s the most important part! So don’t just assume things are still as they used to be. Why not take another look at what we have to offer?
