Z’s Story

Zacchaeus, or “Z” as his family calls him, was in the Johnson City Primary School Good News Club in the 2016-2017 school year until his family had to move. His mother recently shared this story about him that points to just how compassionate the heart of a child can be and what can happen when you teach them to show Jesus’ love to others.

“On the way to church Z saw a man with a sign asking for help and he wanted so badly to help him. We went over to Taco Bell and got a meal for the man. Z got out of the van and handed it to him. As he got back in his face was lit up with a huge smile! He said, “I am so happy I could help him! I should have asked him to come to church!” When we got in to church he actually made his own name tag and put it on which he NEVER does. After church I told him I was proud of him for putting his name tag on. He said, “My heart is just so happy that I helped that man today.” We certainly are not perfect parents but we must be doing something right!”

We are so proud of Zacchaeus and hope that our Good News Clubs and 5-Day Clubs can teach other children to have this same heart for helping others and showing them Jesus’ love.

Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
